Ryanair logoLow-cost carriers or low-cost airlines are popular for their generally low fares. Also called as budget carriers or airlines, low-cost carriers usually exclude the traditional passenger services such as baggage, food, seat selection, priority boarding, and many others. Passengers will have the option to upgrade them when necessary or available. Aside from low price, some of the advantages of low-fare airlines include frequent promotions, new planes, one-way tickets, no delays and off-peak benefits. An example of a low-cost airline is Ryanair, an Irish low-cost airline with headquarters in Swords, a suburb of Dublin. It mainly operates at Dublin and London Stansted airports. Most noteworthy, the industry considers Ryanair as the largest European airline as well as the busiest international airline. Interested to book a flight? Dial Ryanair Phone Number 0330 100 7838.

Ryanair: More Than 30 Years of Low Fares

Ryanair was founded on November 28, 1984, and began its operations on July 8, 1995. It has expanded over the years that resulted from the deregulation of the aviation industry in Europe in 1997 and the achievement of its low-cost business model. The largest largest base of Ryanair is at the London-Stansted airport with 43 aircraft while its Dublin base follows at second.

As of December 2016, Ryanair’s fleet totals to 366, with deliveries of the aircraft scheduled between 2014 and 2018. It carries more than 1,800 daily flights from 86 bases and connects over 200 destinations in 33 countries. As a result, its total operation revenue has increased from almost 3 million Euros in 2010 to 6.5 million Euros in 2016. Chairman David Bonderman, in his 2016 report (for the year ended March 2016), thanked its more than 11,000 dedicated aviation professionals for continuing to work hard to deliver strong financial results while providing what he described as the lowest fares, the best on-time performance, superior customer service and a 31-year safety record for the 106 million customers who flew the airline in the past year.

Always Getting Better

Ryanair chief executive officer (CEO) Michael O’Leary has played a significant role in the growth of Ryanair as well as Europe’s travel and tourism sector. He is described as being controversial and represents a persona different from the corporate conservatism that is usually seen in the industry. He is one of Ireland’s wealthiest businessmen. Since he took office, Ryanair was able to further develop the low-cost model originated by Southwest Airlines. Furthermore, in August 2014, he announced plans to develop a Ryanair Israel that would include the construction of a large hub in Israel. Consequently, Ryanair entered the Israeli market in late 2015 with seasonal flights between October and March. It has just added 15 new routes between Europe and Israel in January 2017. The company seems to be living up as well to one of its taglines, “Always Getting Better.”
